This is it.. What? Did you expect some catchy phrase? HAHAHAWreckreation NationRemember when I blogged about Brian and I participating with our Roman dagorhir fight group at Badon Hill this past September and being filmed for a new show (by the Adventure Guy) for a new show on Discovery Channel? Well it's finally going to be on!! Tune in on Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 at 10:00 PM in to Discovery Channel's new show called Wreckreation Nation. "Dave participates in a blind-folded demolition derby with a family who's been wrecking cars for 30 years. Then he joins the ranks of Romans, elves and Orks at Dagorhir: part war game, part fantasy role playing, part mixed martial arts competition."Our Roman commander, Dominus, "Dave", Lisonna, and ME! ![]() Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! My apologies to my family and friends for not sending out my usual Christmas cards this year. Unfortunately, our economic situation dictates we cut back on non essentials. Hopefully, next Christmas we can get back to our usual traditions because it truly saddens me that I was unable to send out cards this year. Oftentimes the cards are our only communication with long distant family and friends. Not much to update. Brian and I are still seeking employment in a very unforgiving economy. We hope that after the new year things will pick up and we will be able to join the workforce once again. Meanwhile we are making ends meet on my unemployment and mom. Mom is doing well, still working hard as ever. She had Jimmy put to sleep last summer because of his declining health. We got her a pair of finches to keep her company for Mother's Day and she added a canary to the total. So now she doesn't just have to bird watch through her windows, but can enjoy the singing year round. Brandi, Tiffiny and Daniel are doing well no changes there except that I am going to be a grandmother next June. Yes, my son is the cause of the early introduction into grandparenthood. I hope this finds everyone in good health and happiness. May you all have a blessed holiday season and enjoy good health and economy throughout the year. Kelly RIP - PrincessOn a sad note this holiday season, Princess, my former Maltese that Victor kept after our divorce, died peacefully in her sleep, cuddled up to her favorite person in the world (Victor) the morning of December 22, 2008. She was 11 years old and had been suffering from arthritis. Oddly, that very same day, my Maltese, Cee, had done something she rarely rarely ever does. She shredded a tissue all over the floor. The reason why this is odd is because this was a particular favorite pastime of Princess. Princess would dig tissues out from the trash and we would often come home to find them shredded all over the house. Also, that night when I went to bed, with Cee in her usual spot on my right, I felt a bump against my left side. I rolled over and nothing was there. Princess would always sleep on my left side when she stayed here with us. I believe that these where the signs of Princess saying her good byes to us. Princess, may you find peace and happiness in heaven with your friends Garth, Nookie, Daisy and Jimmy. ~Rest in Peace ~ Princess October 1997 to December 22, 2008 Discovery Channel As you can see, I posted a new photo album. Discovery Channel has a new show called "Adventure Guy" that is set to air next spring. It's about a guy who goes around having adventures. They wanted to do a show about medieval fighting and was searching YouTube for ideas and picked one of the organizations that I participate in (Dagorhir) for a show. Not just a segment but a full episode! This will be aired internationally. The cool thing is Discovery Channel likes to show repeasts of their shows a lot, so the publicity for our organization is going to be amazing. Dagorhir started back in the 1970's and has since grown phenominally to encompass all 50 of the states, Canada, Puerto Rico and as far away as a chapter in Japan. This will help us grow even more! As they say, the more out on the field means a target rich environment! Anyway, so Discovery Channel came out to film us during our fall event called "Badon Hill". Badon Hill is held at a campgrounds in Somerset, PA and the field we fight on is up a very very steep grade hill. Elevation is over 2800 feet. The view is very beautiful, but the climb up the hill to the field is very brutal and there is no other way up the hill other than by foot. Then after the climb we fight for 4 hours. There is a link in my hobbies section to the right of the first Badon Hill that will show you a bit of what goes on there. It has grown from 350 total attendees the first year to 500 attendees this year (third year) with 300 of those out on the battlefield fighting. It was GLORIOUS for fighting! Moreover, it was great to see friends I have made over the years who traveled as far away as California to attend this event when I only normally see them at Dagorhir's premier event, our week long war during the month of June called "Ragnarok". Anyway, the Discovery Channel crew hung out and did a lot of interviews of different people from different groups and individuals and also did a nice long interview of our group (Rome) prior to us taking the field on Saturday. Depending how much of the footage they show, Brian and I should be standing there in the background while Dominus is being interviewed and I am sure we will be seen somewhere on the battlefield as well. It will be hard to wait until spring to see the final cuts but I am sure it will be awesome! The crew and the Adventure Guy were very nice folks and it was great to see them in action doing their thing. It was a lot different from when I did the TV commercials when I was in college. Well....its been a long weekend. I had a great time. The only thing I regret is that my dear friend Uther didn't bring his massage table cause I coulda really used a special Uther massage! Ah well, I guess I will have to settle for my whirlpool bath and an Arthol back rub LOL Kelly Update I added some new pictures.... finally got around to taking them off my camera. I also added THREE new videos that are a must see! They are the top three on the list in "My Hobby Links" on the right. Enjoy Kelly |
